How Therapy Works

Your First Session

Our first meeting is a chance for us to get to know each other. I’ll ask about what’s bringing you in, what you’ve been experiencing, and what you hope might feel different over time. There’s no pressure to share everything right away. We go at a pace that feels comfortable and manageable for you.

What Sessions Are Like

Therapy with me is conversational and collaborative. Some days we’ll focus on what’s happening right now. Other times we may explore patterns, past experiences, or emotional themes that keep showing up. We follow what feels most meaningful while also gently working toward growth and change. You don’t need to prepare anything special—just bring whatever feels most important that week.

Online or In-Person

While I always recommend in-person therapy, I also offer secure online therapy sessions, allowing you to meet from the comfort of your own space.

Frequency and Length

Most clients start with weekly sessions. As therapy progresses, we may adjust frequency depending on your goals and needs. Some people come for a focused period of support around a specific issue, while others choose longer-term work to explore deeper patterns and personal growth.

Unsure about Therapy?

It’s completely normal to feel uncertain about starting. Therapy isn’t about having the “right” words or knowing exactly what to say. It’s simply a space to begin exploring what’s been weighing on you, with support and guidance along the way. I offer a free 15-minute phone conversation to figure out if this is the right fit. If not, I’ll help connect you with someone who might work better.

Is There Homework?

When it feels helpful and aligned with your goals, we may also develop small between-session “experiments” or practical exercises to help bring what we’re learning into daily life. These are always collaborative and optional. Many clients find them energizing and clarifying, but we only use them when they genuinely fit your pace and what you’re hoping to get out of therapy.
